George McGowan is a self-taught artist with hundreds of fine ink and ink media sketching’s to his acclaim. George raised his five kids near the beach and was an OC resident for 55 years. He spent 25 years at Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton as a Rocket Engineer which helped tune his drawing skills even more. Then him and his wife Helen Ann retired up in Santa Barbara where he continued his trade.

George and his son Michael had a passion for the beaches in OC. In 1986 Michael joined up with his father collaborating on four iconic beach locations. He sat aside his father as he sketched the Sunset Beach Water Tower, Huntington Beach Pier at PCH and Main with the Golden Bear. After these two were completed, Michael urged him to draw up the Newport Beach Pier including the Stag Bar and Downtown Laguna Beach. Michael was born with a few of Georges talented genes as he has countless surfing sketches to his credit. Mike started to add color touches to many of his father’s sketches. Pencil, Watercolor, and fine ink markers. Still to the day, George continues to sketch in Florida with his wife of 65 years. Michael finally got the opportunity to show case this art and much more at the Sunset Beach Art Festival this past August of 21 which got quite a lot of attention. We hope you enjoy this art the McGowan’s created.
